Brielle!
450 years free, friendly and hospitable
In 2022, Brielle is celebrating 450 years of freedom. It was the first town to be liberated from the Spanish on 1 April 1572 by a group of Dutch nobles who called themselves, ironically, the Sea Beggars. History was made here. The history of liberty. It's something we celebrate in a big way. We welcome you and gladly throw open the gates!
This walled town naturally has much more in store for you. There are historic buildings, little shops, galleries, restaurants, hotels, pavement cafés, campsites, museums, a harbour and a direct connection to the nearby lake, Brielse Meer. You can go for beautiful cycle rides and hikes in the surrounding area and don't forget: there's always something to do.
